I have to grow up?

I started to write this entry about a week ago. I never finished it because something happened and I had to run out in the middle of writing. Now I’m glad I did

Ok I’m getting old, I know I turn 25 in a few weeks [now a little more than a week], but nonetheless today I had a sobering fact pointed out to me and it made me feel old.

What was that fact? Only that a friend of mine who I used to know in high-school has recently gotten married to a woman before getting shipped out. Now you’re wondering why if he was such a good friend, why didn’t I know they were married? Mostly because while I went to HS with him shortly after he moved to south Florida with his family and I lost touch. Since I’ve moved down here I’ve tried to find him but haven’t had any luck. Then I was able to get in touch with a mutual friend back home who told me that her parents ran into his dad. Apparently he’s still living down here in south Florida and married, but at the moment is off in a foreign land fighting the bad guys.

The last part isn’t too suprising, he was a big JROTC guy and joined the Marines when we were Juniors in HS. But really this guy had maybe one serious girlfriend, who he dated for a while sure, but that didn’t go anywhere. It’s just shocking as all hell to see he’s married.

Apparently the facts I heard weren’t too good. Because not only is he not off in some foreign land, he’s going to school right up the road from me. Apparently he lives a bit south of me and commutes up here to Boca once a week for a class at FAU. How do I know this?

Because I just got off the phone with him. Sometime during last weekend while my mother was in Pittsburgh my father had to go shopping for groceries [something he almost never does], during his trip to the local Giant he ran into a man who asked him if he had a son. Thankfully my father isn’t senile and remembered he does indeed have a son. At which point the man asked if his name was Matt, again my dad used his awesome memory to remember my name is indeed Matt. Turns out the gentleman was none other than my friend’s dad.

Of course while my father is telling me this I’m sitting in Jamie’s place sweating up a storm because I had just used a snake to try to unclog her drain, while sweating I’m getting excited because I can’t believe that he randomly ran into Rob’s dad when I had kept meaning to phone them up asking for their son’s number.

Thankfully my dad got an email address for Rob and I sent him a message on Monday. Part of me was worried because I remember in HS that Rob wasn’t exactly the most computer literate, he knew what they were, and could do some things, but definetly didn’t like to mess around on them.

Apparently he got my email because he phoned me up tonight and informed me of him going to school and that he comes up to Boca on Thursdays. So now I’m going to meet back up with an old friend on Thursday night for some drinks, and I’m excited as shit.
