Have you ever had those albums that happen to come along at certain points in your life and so perfectly fit your current mood? Years ago it was Everything’s Supernatural, and most recently it’s been Mike Doughty’s new album Haughty Melodic. I think because both “feel” similar to me. Both have songs that have a rhythm that I can’t help but bounce my head in rhythm to the songs and I just love Doughty’s voice. Plus both have songs that on the surface seem light and lilting, but really have some meat and muscle to their meanings.

So really, go out and buy Mike’s new album when it comes out, you’ll enjoy it. Seriously.

And damn, now that I look at the tour dates he’s playing the Black Cat but nowhere near where I’m at now. Curse you luck and making all my favorite artists play my old hometown right after I move.
