Music Memories

Am I the only person who can remember exact moments when they heard their favorite band?

I remember seeing everything when I went to a Who concert with my sister and her friend [who that friend was, I have no clue]. We were walking around the outside portion of the Nissan Pavilion when we stopped to see this band playing along the walkway, there was about 6 or 7 guys all crammed on this little platform. What I remember sticking out in my head was that there were two horn players and a keyboardist, and man was a guy directly infront of them dancing like a maniac. We stopped to listen for a minute or so, when all three of us said, “Wow these guys are pretty good,” then a moment later I remember walking up to one of their merch table and asking who they were “Everything,” said the woman.

Then all of a sudden I realized why they both sounded familiar in tone, and in name, my good friend Alan had tried to get me into them. His brother was a big fan of his, and turned Alan into one. Immedietly after that they started to play some more and damned if it wasn’t some of the best music I had heard live. There was this awesome energy even when there were only about 10 people watching them, and I just knew then, that I had found something good. And not only were they good, but from people’s reactions they were going to become big soon.

While that prediction wasn’t entirely right, it wasn’t too wrong either. Sure a few years down the road they became big, but they became ‘big’ with one of their worst songs. Even the “Hooch” debacle wasn’t, and isn’t, enough to sway me of my belief that they were/are one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.

So what about you? Do you remember the moment in time when you realized that band X was your now favorite band?
