Just a bit different

It’s a world of difference going from waiting tables to a normal desk-job, I know I’ve said it before, but I’m saying it again. What prompted it this time was the simple fact that today it started to snow once again, only this time the woman I’m working for came in and told me that since I have a rental car [because I got into a nice little accident Friday morning] I could leave early, and if in the morning I didn’t feel good coming in at my normal hour to just call her and tell her I’d be in late and that would be fine.

What’s odd is stuff like that never happens in the restaurant business. Sure a store opens at 11, sure you’re supposed to be there as well, but most times if it’s snowing like it was today you might get your first customer at around noon. But does that matter to managers in restaurants? Hell no, you have to be there right at 11 just in-case by some miracle it ends up being busy. It never is, nor will it ever be in those situations, and it never ever made sense to me why managers were so anal about things like that. Which is why it’s refreshing to hear her say what she did. Sure I don’t think I’ll call in later, but it’s nice to know I don’t have to worry about it.

Guess while the work itself is mind-numbingly boring and I wish I had something else to do when I was at work, I can’t complain. At least I’m making some sort of money and I don’t have to worry about getting enough tables so that I make more than 20 bucks for my 3 hours of work.
