I’m shocked!

And by shocked I mean literally shocked. Somehow in the span of a week I’ve managed to shock myself twice, up until now I’d safely avoided doing such a thing. The first time it happened I was just being stupid and not realizing that when you get out of a pool you’re soaking wet and it’s not good to touch something that’s plugged into an electrical outlet. Even if said thing doesn’t seem to be working, it still most definitely has an electric current running through it. And what did middle-school science teach us? Water + Electricity are a not so good combination.

Thankfully that was just a mild shock where I literally went “Holy crap I think I just shocked myself” and proceeded to laugh at how stupid I was.

Tonight however was more of a “Holy shit I shocked myself and I don’t quite know how!” You see I was talking to my mother about my impending trip back home next week when I walked by my door to my room and happened to put my hand around my light-switch. Now mind you my light-switch doesn’t actually have a cover, so my fingers kind of wrapped around the portion holding the switch. I wouldn’t think that there would be an electric current in those portions of the switch, but apparently there is. Damned if the thing didn’t give me a half-decent shock. Not enough of one to do damage or anything, but my arm was definitely tingling for a while afterward.

Of course since I was on the phone with my mother I ended up going “Holy shit I shocked myself,” at which point my mother went into full on Mom mode and wondered what happened. When I told her she went back into normal-Mom mode and said “Well for Pete’s sake go buy a light-switch cover, they’re only 39 cents at the hardware store.” Yep my mom sure loves me.
